My mother taught me to sew and knit when I was six years old (and more recently a refresher course in crochet after finally recovering from the trauma of going to the beach in a purple and yellow crochet bikini I made for myself when I was 16 – sorry, no photo available). Below is a picture of me in the 1960s with my knitting needles in hand.
I had a toy sewing machine that really worked and I made clothes for my dolls. Later, I made clothes for myself as a teenager, then for my children when they were young. Now I love to discover vintage and recycled fabric, rescue them from the bottom shelves of opportunity shops and transform them in to bags and soft toys. As Seams Different, I love to see old fabric given new life, bringing colour and floral patterns out of the dark and in to the world where they belong.
I love the Retro Age Vintage Fabrics website for stunning, unique, high quality fabrics, as well as Gone To Earth for new fabrics from a range of talented designers.
I have just started using bag patterns purchased from SusieDDesignsUK. Susan has a website and can be found on etsy.
This website was created on 31 August 2013 and is still in the process of being born. There is always something to learn in life – thank you to my son, Julien, for his generous assistance with this project.
